Medieval European Cartography
The Wild Sky Mallorcan Cartography project is a 5-day immersive adventure that blends historical study with practical creation and exploration.
Participants delve into the life of 14th-century cartographer Cresques Abraham, learning about his daily life and mapmaking techniques.
This knowledge is then applied to creating a life-sized reproduction of “The Catalan Atlas”, one of the most influental maps in Medieval European Cartography.
The experience concludes with a visit to a remote Mallorcan castle, connecting the historical cartography to the island’s landscape, offering a unique blend of learning and adventure.
Mallorcan History and Gastronomy
This adventure is a rich exploration of Mallorca’s past and present, intertwining historical significance with the island’s vibrant culinary traditions.
Participants journey through different eras of Mallorcan history, visiting key locations that illuminate the island’s diverse cultural influences and the evolution of its modern identity.
Alongside these historical explorations, the tour delves into the heart of Mallorcan cuisine, allowing participants to taste and experience the flavors that have been shaped by centuries of cultural exchange and local traditions, providing a comprehensive understanding of Mallorca’s heritage through both its landmarks and its gastronomy.
The Florentine Codex and Post Columbian America
This adventure is a deep dive into Pre-Columbian Mexican culture and identity through the lens of the Florentine Codex.
The adventure begins with two days of immersion in Pre-Columbian Mexico, including visits to Xochimilco and the National Archaeological Museum, to establish a foundational understanding of the era.
Participants then engage in a hands-on experience, spending two days recreating sections of the Codex, gaining a unique perspective on the indigenous perspective of that time.
The adventure culminates with a visit to the awe-inspiring Temples of the Sun and Moon at Teotihuacan, offering a powerful connection to the ancient civilizations that shaped the region.
El Princippe and Life in Pre-History
This adventure is a unique exploration of the Gravettian period, centering on the extraordinary El Principe burial.
Students vividly recreate life in this era by not only visiting the locations where he travelled to collect the materials in his burial, but also visiting the cave where he was discovered,
The students will dedicate two days to meticulously recreating all the artifacts found within his burial.
This hands-on experience allows participants to deeply engage with the materials, techniques, and cultural significance of these items, offering a tangible connection to the daily lives and beliefs of Gravettian people.
